What is AGI?
Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) refers to AI that can match human ability across most tasks — learning, reasoning and adapting broadly, not just excelling at one narrow job. An AGI could, in principle, learn a new skill the way a person can.
Crucially, AGI does not exist yet. Today’s most impressive models are still narrow: astonishingly capable within their training, but without genuine general understanding or the ability to reliably transfer learning across very different domains.
What is ASI?
Artificial Superintelligence (ASI) is a hypothetical intelligence that surpasses the best human minds across virtually every field — science, creativity, strategy, social skill. It’s a concept from long-term AI discussions and thought experiments, not anything that exists or is close.
Because ASI would, by definition, exceed human capability broadly, it features heavily in debates about AI safety and the long-term future — but it remains speculative.
Where we actually are today
Every AI you can use right now — ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, image generators — is narrow AI. These systems are powerful at specific tasks but lack human-like general reasoning, common sense across domains, and self-awareness.
